DEKA DURATION BALANCE OF SYSTEM (BOS)

Last Edited 7/23/25. Click any thumbnail to enlarge.

The Deka Duration is a great product but it is lacking any method to protect battery power and control wiring. In cases where subject to damage, electrical codes require means to protect wiring and cables. Where access is not limited to authorized personnel, I recommend wiring be protected from contact by any persons. Aesthetically, exposed cable systems can be unattractive.

I have developed methods to protect and combine battery cables used with Deka Duration batteries. Those methods are illustrated below.

System without cable protection. This was done as neatly as possible but it does not look prefessional. Cable tray might have helped.

System with cable protection, covers off.

Covers in place.

Pull box during fabrication. It is constructed from 6" X 6" N1 gutter stock.

Power distribution blocks are used for battery combining. Fine-stranded cables require ferrules. All cables are identical lengths.

Boxes are held in place by the battery cover screws.

1" EMT is used to protect battery power and control cables between the pull boxes.

The Duration batteries, when wall mounted, take up very little space. These batteries are hidden behind a couch.

Wish list:

In some situations building codes require that energy storage systems (ESS) be equipped with some means to disconnect the batteries remotely. I wish these batteries had an "inhibit" function that could be initiated with a contact closure.
